Everyone’s been jumping into Black Ops 7 Zombies lately, and yeah, the Ashes of the Damned map is huge enough to lose track of everything. While most players are just trying to stay alive past round 10, there’s a fun little side challenge hiding in plain sight that’s easy to miss. It’s an Easter egg involving a Combat Axe, and trust me, it’s more than just a gimmick—it can actually turn the tide of your match if luck’s on your side. If you’re messing around in the early game, especially grinding the CoD BO7 Bot Lobby setup, keep this trick in mind. It kicks off over near Blackwater Lake, which is pretty recognizable once you know where to look.

    Getting Started Near Blackwater Lake
To trigger the mini-quest, make your way to the southwest corner of Blackwater Lake. There’s a small shed sitting quietly near the water—it’s the same one with a Crafting Table inside. Step in and turn right; that little side room holds a trophy resting on a shelf. It seems totally random, but once you interact with it, you’ll see a short pulse of light and hear a sound cue. That’s your signal. Head outside again, and right in a stump just outside the shed, the Combat Axe will appear waiting to be picked up. Once you grab it, the challenge begins.

    Mastering the Combat Axe Challenge
From here, move toward the southeast corner of the lake. Your eyes should catch a glowing purple target hovering past the map’s boundary. The task seems simple—hit the target—but the throw mechanics require you to aim higher than you think. The first targets are easy, barely moving, almost like target practice. After two or three hits, the pace picks up. They start shifting mid-air, and suddenly you’re juggling aim and zombie pressure at the same time. It’s chaotic in the best way, especially when your squad’s yelling at you not to get grabbed while you line up your throw.

    Keeping Focus Under Pressure
At this stage, it’s all about timing. Each time you hit a moving target, another one appears deeper into the distance or off to the side. The axe returns automatically, so no need to chase it down—focus on predicting the movement instead. Some players swear there’s a pattern, but honestly, with zombies rushing your flank and limited space near the lake, it’s usually instinct and muscle memory that get it done.

The Rewards That Make It Worth It
Once you’ve smashed all targets floating around, the mysterious Mr. Peeks will spawn nearby. He’s got that creepy vibe typical of Zombies side characters, but you’ll forgive him once you see the loot drop. The rewards vary, but you’ll usually snag Essence or Salvage. Sometimes he’ll hand over free Perks or even drop a high-tier weapon. And if the RNG gods are smiling, you might find an Aether Tool or an Aetherium Crystal—those two can seriously boost your weapon quality or upgrade your gear instantly.

    Co-op Players, Pay Attention
One big catch that trips up teams: this Easter egg only works once per game and only one player can complete it. So in co-op, you’ll have to decide who gets to go axe-throwing. It’s worth switching off in different rounds or matches so everyone gets a chance at the prizes. For anyone grinding together or solo farming loot, combining this challenge with your regular runs and the CoD BO7 Bot Lobbies buy method makes the whole Zombies experience way more rewarding.
